Fat grafting, or fat transfer, consists of using liposuction to remove unwanted fat and then processing the fat and redistributing it into low volume areas. The most common areas for fat grafting include the butt (Brazilian Butt Lift), the breast,
How Does It Work?
The process for fat transfer starts with liposuction. The liposuction can be performed anywhere there is stubborn or excess fat, but most commonly patients choose to have it removed from the abdomen, flanks, back, or thighs. After the fat is removed, it goes through a process to extract the best fat possible. This includes filtering, cleaning, and purification. These steps are very important because they help define the results. Without purification, the resorption rate
When the fat is correctly purified and injected, the fat develops a new blood supply to thrive as a living tissue. This allows the cells to permanently survive to grow and thrive in their new home with old fat cells. Of course, some fat cells are absorbed by the body (anywhere from 10-50%) which is why we take precaution by transferring more fat than is needed to the area. This helps patients achieve the results they are looking for.
Fat transfers to the breast are great for patients who want to rid certain areas of excess or stubborn fat and would like to increase their breast size at the same time. Breast fat grafting can increase the breast size about one cup size. Breast fat grafting differs from traditional breast augmentations (implants) in several ways. First, breast fat grafting provides more natural looking results. Second, there are not the risks and complications that are associated with implants. Lastly, the procedure is permanent and the fat implanted will grow and thrive in your breasts. Read our Fat Transfer to the Breast page to learn more about the procedure.
Brazilian Butt Lifts are one of the top trending plastic surgery procedures and they are great for patients who want to create an hourglass figure and increase the size of the butt and/or hips. Through this fat grafting procedure, your plastic surgeon transfers the fat from liposuction to the hips and butt where it is contoured to your ideal shape. The liposuction that takes place before the fat transfer is crucial for sculpting the body in the hourglass shape. The liposculpture helps define a tiny waist to further emphasize the butt and hips.
