Brazilian Butt Lift

Brazilian Butt Lifts are currently one of the top most requested procedures in plastic surgery, and we specialize in them so much that we put it in our name! If a patient is seeking the perfect hourglass figure, it can easily be accomplished with a Brazilian Butt Lift. Our Board Certified Plastic Surgeon will discuss your goals and what needs to be done to accomplish them. A Brazilian Butt Lift begins with liposuction or liposculpture of unwanted fat and the fat is then grafted and processed to be injected into the hip and butt area.

Liposuction and Body Contouring

After your consultation and surgery scheduling, the first step of your surgery is the body contouring phase. This is where your plastic surgeon removes any excess fat you wish to see gone. Most commonly, it is removed from the abdomen, flanks, and back. Removing fat from these areas helps sculpt the body and define curves that create an hourglass figure. We have different methods of liposculpture we can use depending on the individual case of the patient. These include: VASERlipo®, power assisted liposuction, LASER Lipo and traditional liposuction. Liposuction can be performed either under general anesthesia (asleep) or while awake (local anesthetic and sedation). However, we recommend patients have general anesthesia for the fat transfer to the buttocks portion of the procedure because the fat must be injected into multiple areas in order to get the hourglass curves and we find patients are simply more comfortable and have a better experience when asleep.

Fat Grafting

The fat extracted from liposuction is then processed to remove any excess fluid or tissue (blood, water, tissue etc.) that is combined with the fat using our proprietary methods. The fat purifications steps are multiple stages that consist of separation, isolation, washing, and cleaning. In our experience, these steps to fat processing are often skipped by other surgeons. Why does it matter? Because the purification steps allow for a better fat graft survival rate and therefore better long-term results. With these extra steps of processing and cleaning the fat, the fat has a higher chance of staying put, keeping your investment safe. The processed fat is then injected into the hips and outer butt area to sculpt the hourglass shape with 3D Fat Sculpting®. Once the correct frame is shaped, the remaining fat is injected to volumize and sculpt the butt. In some cases, butt implants are placed in addition to fat to achieve the patient’s goals.

Liposuction Recovery

Liposuction is well tolerated procedure. Most patients are able to go back to work within 3 days after surgery, some patients go back the following day, and some simply come in for awake liposuction over their lunch break and are back at work! When recovering from liposuction, bruising, swelling, and firmness are common to experience immediately after surgery. However, you will be able to see the difference in your shape from the moment after the procedure. Swelling begins to decreases within 3 weeks and the majority of the swelling in most individuals should be gone by week 6. A compressive garment will also help to decrease the swelling and firmness. Therefore, we have you wear the compressive garment for as long as you have swelling and firmness.
I recommend massage to recovery properly from liposuction. I like for you to massage these areas starting 1 week after surgery once a day. In addition, we have lymphatic massage therapists that specialize in massaging post-operative liposuction patients that we are happy to recommend you to.

Fat Transfer to Butt Recovery

Recovering from the fat transfer is a little different than liposuction. It is important to stay off your butt as much as possible while the fat is healing, otherwise your results can suffer because the sitting can cause the fat to reabsorb. Most patients return to work after 5-7 days. During the first week of recovery, walking is highly encouraged for exercise. After one week, patients can run/jog or go to the gym; however, no lower body exercises or exercises that place pressure on the butt should be done until 4 weeks after surgery. During the first week of recovery, you can sit to use the bathroom, otherwise there should be no pressure placed on your butt (lay on your tummy or stand). We highly recommend patients use a pressure-off loading pillow. This can simply be any pillow placed under the thighs to keep the Butt from making contact while you sit. Conversely, you may purchase a pressure-off loading pillow. The pilow allows you to sit as usual during recovery after the 1st week.
Sitting Instructions for Fat Transfer to the Butt Recovery
Week 1: Sitting only for bathroom use
Week 2: Sit as usual with a pressure off-loading pillow. If you do not utilize a pressure off-loading pillow then, sit for 15-30 minutes at a time and then standing up to shift weight.
Week 3: Sit as usual with a pressure off-loading pillow. If you do not utilize a pressure off-loading pillow then, sit for 30-60 minutes at a time and then standing to shift weight.
Week 4: Sit as usual with a pressure off-loading pillow. If you do not utilize a pressure off-loading pillow then, sit for 1-2 hours at a time and then standing to shift weight.
Week 5: No sitting restrictions unless otherwise directed.

Brazilian Butt Lift Overview

We live in the age of curvier figures; when models like “Twiggy” from the 1960s would never fare as well as today’s celebrities like JLo or Kim Kardashian. While curves and natural figures are more of a trend, there are still some areas of emphasis. One of the main areas is the buttocks, and particularly if a woman also has a slender waist to emphasize the fuller lines of her backside. That is why the Brazilian butt lift is one of the most frequently requested forms of plastic surgery.
